Replaceable Seals

Chatfield Marine in New Zealand manufactures a flexible seal unit designed to be retrofitted to existing stern tube assemblies or installed in new boats - the Blue Water Shaft Seal. This is a proven system that is now certified by Germanischer Lloyd for use in pleasure and commercial boats and is now used as standard equipment by well known boat builders across New Zealand, Australia, the USA and now the UK.

The lip seal element can be easily removed should it be damaged or need replacing with no need to replace the entire unit. New seals elements are readily available from our spare parts department.

The Blue Water Shaft Seal has a built-in safety feature that if the seal element is damaged the seal retaining plate can be converted into a gland follower by replacing a ring of greasy hemp gland packing under it to form an effective temporary seal allowing a replacement lip seal to be fitted at leisure.

These water cooled units are manufactured from cast admiralty bronze, chosen for its excellent bearing and salt water resistant properties. They are available for 25-100mm (1”-4”) shaft diameters.
